Creating a Health Community

How We Started

In 1971 the Bi-County Health Department was started with Anderson County and Linn County. Kansas Department of Health and Environment worked with two these counties because of the immunizations rates being so low. Several years later Allen, Bourbon and Woodson Counties joined us and that was the start of the Southeast Kansas Multi-County Health Department. In 2006 Linn County left the SEKMCHD leaving the four counties, Allen, Anderson, Bourbon and Woodson.

In the beginning the Health Department Nurses went to into all the schools to give free immunizations to anyone who needed them. All the while they were still working on educating the public about the importance of the immunizations.

As of 2017 we still go to the schools for immunizations and flu clinics. Other services have been added over the years to include WIC, Women's Health, Blood Draws, Physicals, Childcare Licensing, Health Start Home Visitors and Breast Feeding support. Additional services continue to become available as funding allows for expansion.

We currently have 13 employees between the 4 counties all ready to help in any way we can. Feel free to contact us at any time. If we cannot help you we will do our best to help you find what you need.

We are here to help!
